Statue of Liberty Plaza Project nears fundraising finish line

Two days till the deadline for the Seattle (Alki) Statue of Liberty Plaza Project to finish fundraising and figure out if they have enough to cover the full plaza design that’s proposed. We checked in with the project’s co-chairs this afternoon to see where things stand:

From what we can tell, it looks like we will definitely be meeting our goal (and probably go over it) of $157,000 which is the estimated cost of construction. The City of Seattle wants to know we have definitely raised that much money before moving on to the bid process and starting to let contracts to build the new plaza and pedestal. It looks as if we will have met that goal by Tuesday, Jan. 15th and we will be contacting the Mayor’s office and the Parks Dept. to give them a preliminary accounting next Tuesday afternoon.

At this point in time, Sunday (Jan 13) at 12:15, we still have 2 benches ($5000 each) and 2 landscape plaques ($2000 each) left to sell. And, of course, we still have plenty of room for more bricks since we haven’t even reached selling 1000 bricks yet and there is room for 6000 bricks in the plaza!

If anyone is interested in the 2 remaining benches or plaques, please let us know as soon as possible. Please call us at 206-938-8720 and be sure to leave a message indicating your interest if we are out. Thank you, West Seattle and Alki residents, for all your strong support on this project!

Libby & Paul Carr

The Plaza Project’s website, including design drawings for the plaza proposal, is here. On it, the Carrs mention that brick sales are likely to continue for an unspecified time beyond Tuesday.
